Day Three: Making Habits

The sink seems to be the easiest part of keeping up with the habits. Having a completely clean kitchen is something that I am proud of and keeping it clean has been rather easy. I want it to always look clean when I go in there. I have put all dishes in the dish washer and I clean pots and pans right after I use them. Dirty dishes are never seen anymore. It is so crazy! But, amazing crazy!

Getting ready with clothes, shoes, and make up was a little harder. When I wake up I have a Ricky and a baby who need breakfast and I am starving - so it got put off. Then I play and change diapers. Thank goodness nap time isn't that far off. This is when I had time to get real clothes on and do my hair and make up. But, it got done - that is the important thing!

Yay! Can you tell I even went for the all out eyeliner, eyeshadow, and everything make up? Much more presentable than yesterday.

Day Three: Keep on Keeping On

Went to bed last night with a shiny sink. Woke up this morning to a wrecked kitchen.

That's just what happens sometimes when you live with other people and they aren't on board with your plans. After getting pissed and venting a little bit, I tried to remember my bad days and how at my worst I'd leave dirty dishes in the sink for so long I'm embarrassed to admit it. So instead of bitching and moaning, I unloaded the dishwasher and got to work. The sink still isn't shiny (some things have to soak a little), but I'm in better spirits and I'm dressed to shoes, makeup and hair!

Easiest thing in the world, right? Well not usually if your day doesn't start until after 1pm.

Finally though I got in the shower, got dressed and did my hair and makeup. Granted, this is a look that I did for a makeup challenge, but I'm dressed to shoes regardless.

Day Two: Put on Shoes

Oh, and do hair and makeup and get dressed. Let me tell you, that is a lot to ask for.



And I did it! I woke up and went straight to the bathroom. Alina came with me of course and I gave her a cookie (a healthy cookie). I must distract little one in order to get anything done. I moisturized my pregnancy acne ridden face and then put on concealer and mascara. I also warmed up my hair straightener to straighten my hair. That thing hasn't been used in over a year. Seriously.




There is the finished product for day two. I am sure I will gradually wear more make-up. It was actually weird not going through the whole hour ritual I used to do. And how easily it seems that you forget how much you used to do.

I am proud of myself. I stopped wearing makeup (except for special, rare occasions) when I was pregnant with Alina. I used the excuse, I'm pregnant. Then she was born and I used the excuse, I have a newborn. Then it was I have a baby and I have a toddler. And now I am pregnant again. NONE are good excuses (okay maybe there is a grace period 6 weeks post partum - but once the doctor says you are normal and okay the face and regular clothes should come back).

I used to say I would never leave the house with out normal clothes and make up on. I failed myself. But, today is the first step towards being me again. The girly, image conscious, feel good about myself - ME.

Shinky Sink: Day One

I've done this step at least a hundred times over, and it always seems easier when there's support. Knowing I had to post a picture of it on the blog got me motivated, and this is what it looked like last night (on day one).

And even this morning, it was still shining. What a great way to wake up!

So the assignment for Day One is to shine your sink. Got it. I can do that. Totally.



Step 1. Take All Dishes out of sink.

Well that was easy. I did dishes today and an empty sink is something I can do - even with very little counter space.

Step 2. Hot Water and Bleach...blah, blah, blah.

Check and check. Super easy. And as you can see I do have double sided - so I did it twice just like the original instructions said to do. Rinsed a bunch and move on! Woo Hoo!


Step 3. Rinse Sink.

Well, duh. Did that. Who wants bleach in their sink?

Step 4. Powder cleanser and scrub.

WOOPS! This is how much of a cleaning fail I am. We do not have any powder cleaners what so ever in this household. It was put on a grocery list now though. So don't you worry, I will redo this step when I get the powder. Just remind me.

Step 5. Sharp edge to creases and edges.

You got it. This was actually kind of fun and kind of gross. But, dang I got a lot of gunk out of there.

Step 6. Clean around faucets.

Uh okay. Well I tried. I don't have any old toothbrushes. I used the butter knife and a scrub pad and GASP my nails. I did my best. But, I probably should have cleaned up the paint two years ago when I painted the bathroom. That was a bitch.

Step 7. Windex your sink.

Haha... another cleaner that is now on the grocery list. I can't believe I don't have window cleaner. And I bet you can't believe it either. Serious cleaner here. Note sarcasm.

Step 8. Don't like the way it looks? Wax it.

I don't know where Ricky has the car wax. And I feel a little odd about that. We will windex it when I get some windex. But, in the picture you can see it still is shiny.


Step 9. Every time you use your sink run a clean dish towel through it.

Okay. I will designate a towel. Or sew one up. I think that will be task for tomorrow.


Follow up, I should have taken a before picture so that you could compare. It looks like 600 times better. Honestly, and even with skipping steps. So shiny. I don't even want to use it.

Who is Jia?

Hi, I am Jia and I am a housewife and blogger constantly trying to tackle that ever growing pile of laundry and somehow walk away not pissed off during it all.

I am 27 years old and have been married for 8 years. I live with my husband, my in-laws and three dogs in the southwest (where dirt blows right in through your front and back doors as if it lived there with you.) My husband and I live in the home that he grew up in, his parents home. After living on our own for several years, we moved back in with his parents to help them out after they lost their jobs. My husband is currently the only one working outside of the home. And someday, it feels like I'm the only one working inside of it.

I am a blogger and writer and use what time I have to myself to overload on tv marathons, makeup, genealogy and social media. I have been diganosed with depression, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder, all of which make keeping house just a little more difficult. I have long stretches of time where my home is in order and life is great, but if a wrench gets thrown into my machine, it all falls to pieces.

In the past I've tried many ways to get a head of the clutter and dirt, but Flylady seems to be the easiest way, or at least the way that stuck the best. So I will be introducing Flylady to Chrissy so we can use each other for motivation and support.

Who Is Chrissy?

Hey, I am Chrissy and I am one of the wonderful not quite Stepford wives that so many Americans are. This blog is going to be dedicated towards learning to clean better, love yourself better, and basically be happy with life. All things that I happen to struggle with.

I am 27 years old and live in rural Wisconsin. I do have my bachelor's degree in Broad Field Social Studies, but I happen to be a stay at home mom right now. I currently have a one year old daughter named Alina and another baby on the way due August 28th.

I have lived in my current house with my boyfriend (basically fiance) for almost two years. I will just start by saying the place is a sty. A falling apart piece of crap starter home that no one in their right mind should seriously have agreed to. And I say that with all the love in the world. I have slowly turned this once bachelor pad into a home and continue to try doing so. Hopefully, through this new program I will succeed and make this into something I can be proud of.

My hobbies include sewing, video games, computer games, surfing the internet, and being a "nature" mom. "Nature" mom meaning that I cloth diaper and support all things green and healthy. For my child. I still struggle sticking myself to this regimen. Which along the lines you might see me switch to family cloth, mama cloth, unpaper towels, or something else along those lines. I might post about healthy toddler food or adult food - I really need to use my crock pot more.

So, I have ranted enough here. But, this is seriously going to be a place where my friend Jia and I hold each other accountable for keeping our lives clean, happy, and loving. Anyone who wants to watch the journey is welcome.
